The Race: (v.1) We, as followers of Jesus Christ receive the baton of Faith w/cloud of witnesses before us. We are part of the “story” – our meaning, purpose and significance. “Race” imagery drawn from the ancient Olympic games.
The Obstacles: What are the things that hinder you? What is encumbering you from running the race of Faith? When Jesus saw suffering, death and pain, Jesus wept. We should weep when faced with sorrows.
The Discipline: (v.3) Push through with endurance. Suffering is a form of training and discipline. (v.7) endure suffering as discipline to a greater life and wholeness. In the midst of heartache/loss you need a loving, strong Father.
The Victory: Feels like you’re getting weaker, but you’re actually getting stronger. We can use these sufferings of life to grow us in strength. Weep, be angry, be broken, know in the midst God is with you in that place. (v.12) Victory by keeping our eyes on Jesus – the source and perfecter of our faith.
